Sexy! 1950s wooden Platform Mules with Golden Spike heels! Available soon! Size 6 1/2 Jewel Tone Originale Made in Italy! Great Pair of Shoes For Sexing it up, when the feelin's right!

C'mon, don't cha just LOVE these super sexy Platform Mules with Golden Spike Heels???  I do and so should you.  Ok,,only joking, I know everyone is entitled to their own style, but if you want a sexy one, well, here you Go!  Soon, they will be listed in my online shop Vintage 201 on Etsy.

I picked these babies up at an estate sale that took me forever to get to because I got lost...but was well worth it to find well made italian heels.

When getting lost to the estate sale,  I saw this beautiful view of Paterson, NJ and New York City to the right, in the distance.   Getting lost has it's perks!
The house was loaded with many pieces of clothing but they weren't vintage enough (she wore a lot of leopard, my kind of gal) for me.  The house was filled with a really cool Spanish Revival Living Room set with burnt orange velvet cushions and heavy dark mahogany wood.  I would have snactched that up in a jiff if I had a warehouse to store it in, but anyway, back to the Sexy Shoes!

The daughter who inherited the house from her mother was watching me go through clothes and said that she admired that I took my time.  I let her know that I
was looking for vintage clothing and shoes from the 40s, 50s and 60s and since there was a large amount of contemporary clothing in her mother's closets and didn't want to miss a jewel of a gem hiding somewhere in there.

With that, she disappeared then reappeared with these lovely white leather mules (pictured above) with the wood platform and the golden spike heel.  I actually ClAPPED my hands together...yes, I did, no lie and said, "Yay!".

Just then, the daughter went into a flashback about her mother's shoes.  She  remembered seeing her mother wearing them as a child and knew her father was "getting laid" when they made an appearance.....yes, she actually said that.  I thought it was really cool knowing that these shoes evoke sexyness but, I wouldn't want to speak that way about my parents.  It is not because I am a prude, I am really far from it.  I just don't think I would want the vision that comes along with speaking about them in that kind of sexy fashion.  euueeewhaa, no way!  Well, maybe I am a prude!

So, here's to the shoes and mother that had some sexy nights with her husband, I salute you,,as long as you aren't my parents.

Thank you for reading.  Check back for an update of my next Estate Sale adventure where I go to Connecticut to fish through the closets of a 95 year old woman.  ~  Gina

Vintage 201 - Selling at the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair - Great Day, Great People, a little too hot but that didn't stop us or a true Vintage Fashionista!

We sold our goods at the Rutherford Street Fair and Had a Blast!

Here I am with my best Pal, Raul,,,Selling away at the Largest Labor
Day Street Fair in New Jersey!

Yes, this Labor Day was a Steamy Hot (90 degrees and HUMID) one but we toughed it out and met a lot of nice people and created happy customers.

Actually, the night before, I received an email from a potential customer asking about buying a pair of 1950s Vintage Alligator Shoes from Saks Fifth Avenue that were being sold on my online shop, Vintage 201.  He said he wanted to try the shoes on before buying them and worked nearby my studio location. I wrote him back and mentioned that we would be selling at the Rutherford Street Fair.
Ready for Happy Vintage Customers at the Rutherford Street Fair 9/1/2014.

Late that night after getting all the goodies ready, I somehow remembered to grab those shoes!  I hadn't planned on taking them only because I can only take so much.  I placed them in a Vintage valise (suitcase) and took them with me.  After unloading and setting up, I placed the valise under my display table to save for the potential customer.

I wasn't sure if he would make it or not and I didn't hear from him.  Honestly, I forgot about them and went about the day chatting it up with all sorts of people that stopped by.

Well, we just started to break down the shop at the end of this sauna of a day, a gentleman appeared out of nowhere and said, "Gina, I thought I would never find you today" and I was like,,uh, he doesn't look familiar, have I gone nuts? I don't remember him. Then, he said his name and it clicked!  It was the potential emailing customer from the night before.

It turns out he drove all the way from Greenwich, Connecticut, which isn't that far from Rutherford, New Jersey, but on Labor Day!  I give him a lot of credit and he is a true Vintage Fashionista!!!  He said he was stuck in a lot of traffic and he didn't think he would find me in time but he LOVED the shoes and he left a happy (and steamy) customer!

Thanks to the nice gentleman that knows good quality Vintage Shoes!  That was so cool of him to make the trip.  I just love it when my vintage hunting efforts can make another happy!  Yay!

1950s Saks Fifth Avenue Alligator Loafers that were sold
at the Rutherford Street Fair.

Funny how things go around or come around.  I let him know that I bought those shoes from a mansion in Greenwich and even explained where it was and he said it was 2 blocks from his house.  Creepy, but true...the shoes that sat in that house for over 60 years found themselves right back up in the same neighborhood....love it!

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more information coming soon regarding
Vintage 201 selling at the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Gentlemen's Show in NYC this September!  ~ Gina

p.s.  Thanks to all my friends Mark, Rich, Raul, Vinny, Tony, my sisters, mother and my husband for all your help and support!  I have the best people around me, xoxox

Vintage 201 at Rutherford Street Fair, Rutherford, New Jersey! September 1, 2014 - We will be there Selling our Fabulous Vintage Finds!

September 1, 2014 Rutherford Street Fair - RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY

Vintage 201 will be participating in the Rutherford Street Fair this year for the first time.. Yay!  I signed up to be a vendor and will pick out some cool Vintage Items from my shop, Vintage 201.  This year, Vintage Mens clothing, shoes and ties will be available for purchase  along with Vintage Womens clothing and accessories.

I have personally went to this street fair every year since 1998.  It really is a great event with plenty of antique vendors and other vintage sellers as well.  Rutherford is also known for it's great restaurants.  All the restaurants offer their delicious food right in front of their establishments, curb side!

You can drive and park your car along Rutherford's beautiful treelined streets or take the NJ Transit train from Hoboken or Secaucus.  New Yorker's can get to either station from the PATH Trains to Hoboken then NJ Transit Trains to Rutherford or Penn Station to Secaucus then to Rutherford.

You can also catch the NJ Transit 190 from Port Authority, (get off at Rutherford Train Station or few blocks before that at Highland Cross and walk up to Park Ave) that is if you dare to get your passport out and take a short ride to Jersey.  Rutherford is only 10 mins ride from Midtown and Hoboken.

Hope to see you there!

Irving Penn's Photograph in Vogue May 1, 1947 of the 12 most Photographed Models, including Lily Carlson. I believe we have found the Vintage Gown she was wearing in the photo!

A few days ago, I had my friend over to look at all of my vintage finds and shop in my studio. Well, we had a blast and he found a few men's items for himself too.  You see, my friend Richie, is one of the people I would shop with as a teen.  We would go to vintage stores and thrift shops around our neighborhood along the Hudson River in New Jersey and in New York City too.

After he left, the next day he sent me this photo by Irving Penn and said he thought the dress he admired in my studio could very well be the dress in this photo.

Photographed by Irving Penn

Vogue, May 1, 1947 - Irving Penn's famous tableaux, which is almost always peferred to as "The Twelve Beauties."   The Model in the Center is Lily Carlson, appears to be wearing a "New Look"  ruched white gown.  At this photo session, Irving Penn first fell in love with Lisa Fonssagrives, sixth from left.  They were married in 1950 and remained married until her death until 1992.  Irving Penn was born in Plainfield, NJ.   Ok, I had to mention that he was Jersey born because I am too. Sources: Wikipedia & Vogue.com

It sure looks like it to me.  Maybe you can decide and comment.   Here is a comparison:

Photo to the right is a crop shot of Irving Penn's Photo for Vogue

I could not locate a designer's label, but it does look strikingly familiar.   The dress I own has a metal zipper on the side, which tells me it is 1940s and I believe you can see that on her left side.  Just like mine.

Here are some more photos of my gown.

Once I can find out more information regarding this gorgeous gown and have it restored properly, it will be up for sale in my online shop Vintage 201 on Esty.com,   Thank you for Reading!   Have a Fab Day ~ Gina!

Also, in Fashion History, on  this same day as today, February 12, in 1947, a new couturier named Christian Dior presented his first show in Paris.  A model strolled out in a black wool skirt cut at the calf that was made with 20 yards of material, which was nipped at the waist and flared into a beautiful peplum.  A shantung jacket in cream, this ensemble had a name, Bar.  This was also a postwar world still under rationing, so the Bar was over top and shocking.  But, the look had caught on!  The women loved the ultra feminine styles that were a wonderful reminder of brighter days of luxury.    Harper's Bazaar editor Carmel Snow remarks, "t's quite a revolution, dear Christian.  Your dresses have such a new look.  It wasn't too long before the world press picks up on the styles and words "New Look."   Sources: Dior.com & Vogue.com

Christian Dior's "New Look' was born!
