Vintage 201: Tom Jones' Birthday & his Bulge!

Tom Jones and Raquel Welch - Rock 'n' Roll... by SarayaDawnSirTomJones
Today, 1970's Sex Symbol, Entertainer and Power Vocalist, Tom Jones, turned 73 years old.  I loved watching his show in the 70s when I was kid and I wrote about his birthday 2 years ago.

So, here it is again for another go around, a super cool 70s video featuring Tom Bulge, ah,,,I mean Tom JONES with Tina Turner!!!!  Oh Yeah!   Happy Birthday Tom! xoxo

This post was originally submitted on June 7, 2011

Today, 1970's Sex Symbol, Entertainer and Power Vocalist, Tom Jones, turned 71 years old. I loved watching his show in the 70s when I was about 5 or 6 and I wanted to celebrate by posting a Video of him.  I searched through numerous videos and Loved many of them, but the best ones I figured were too long (over 2 minutes) to have others stop by, click and watch.

I picked this one, because I really love Raquel's Hair Do, Jump Suit and her oh so Groov”n Moves! Her singing isn't that great but what the hell...she is Raquel! Oh, that rhymes.

The others I wanted to post because of the Bulge on this Man!  It is just unbelievable.

But, Wait! I remember those days, when men would sport "it" in tight jeans or Polyester pants....and to think, I was a kid, eye level to all the bulges! You just don't see this anymore...So, today is not only a Celebration of Tom's Birthday, it is also a Celebration of The 70's Bulge, the Fashion Accessory for Men.

If you have 2 1/2 (it shows over 4 minutes but stops at 2:43) more minutes to spare, check this Video with Tom Jones and Tina Turner.

I love the color shirt and the style Tom is wearing and check out those high waist pants! He had some body and some, well, you know.  As for Tina's ensemble, I really Like this Sparkly dress with the high cut to show her Fabulous leg and the color is almost the same as the Raquel dress in the Video Above, sort of a Root Beer.

This video is a great piece of Pop Music History, seeing these two together! I have actually seen Tina at Radio City Music Hall in 1994 and Tom in Atlantic City around 1995.  I had a great time and enjoyed both their shows.

Ok, I hope you enjoy the Fashion, the Music and of course,,,(don't be shy) The 70s Bulge!

Thank you for reading and watching too! Have a Fab Day,,,Gina

Hot to Trot! 1960s and 1970s mini dresses!

Oh how hot they are!   I have some new (vintage) 1960s and 1970s hot mini dresses!

Take a Look!!!

Late 1960s mini dress. Cream background with ornate designs in Purple, Orange, Green and Gold in a nylon knit (I believe so).

Another Late 1960s Mini, I think this is my favorite with the color combination and all the swirl.  This material is very soft and it might be a rayon but I am not sure.

Here is a 1970s Poly Knit dress with Cowl neck.  Cute with geometric designs in one of my favorite combos, Pink and Red.   I have a number of these dresses in different colors and designs.

I also have a a few more 60s mini dresses to list on my site on Etsy, so, this is just a sneek peek for now.  Soon all dress will be up in my Shop, so stay tuned for some really cool designs that are also hot to trot!  (oh so 70s! the hot to trot stuff).

Thanks for reading and have a fab day! ~ Gina

Vintage Gucci Bracelet Watch. A perfect example of 80s Sophistication!

A lovely Vintage Gucci watch in gold tone metal just came my way!  This watch was bought in the 1980s and boasts a sleek design. Very simple, very elegant and a bit futuristic!  This vintage Gucci is perfect for the office, dinner or any day event.  The band is made of a sturdy gold tone metal and has a clasp closure.  It is a bracelet, it is a watch, it is both and it's Vintage GUCCI!

Hatsville and Lidsville! 1970s Vintage Wool Felt Hats and Vintage Saturday Morning TV Shows!!

An Adolfo hat in Navy Blue - Wool Felt with full Veil, Made in USA

Recently, I received a bunch of hats from a woman that held onto these lovely pieces from the 1970s.  Lucky me she did, because I can now offer them for sale.

They are all Women's Wool Felt hats and one is Black Felt fur and my favorite!  The brands in this collection are:

  • Adolfo II, -  Adolfo Sardina, in 1948 began working in millinery at Bergdorf Goodman. His first label, Adolfo of Emme, was produced 1951-1958.  He started his own millinery in  1962 with money he borrowed from Bill Blass.  He would design some of his hats to compliment the clothing of Norman Norell in the 1960s.  He made cloths as well and by the 1980s, he was producing suits for ladies, which were worn Nancy Reagan. Adolfo retired in 1993.  Source: Vintage Fashion Guild
  •  Makins for Neiman Marcus - Makins is still in business today and has a factory on 35th Street in Manhattan.   This company started in 1974 when the founder was unemployed and started making hats by hand in a one room, 4 story walk up apartment.  These lovely hats are still being made by hand and many celebrities just Love Makins.  To read more about Makins and to see new products, click here:  Makins

  • Bloomingdales, Made in England - This is a beautiful black felt fur fedora hat that is just fabulous! It has a super soft velvety feel.

Makins for Neiman Marcus - Brown Wool Felt Hat, with yellow and white feathers.

Makins for Neiman Marcus - Navy Blue Wool Felt Hat

Bloomingdale's Black Wool Felt Fur Hat- Made in England
Another Adolfo II Wool Felt hat with built in head scarf - Dark Brown
For some strange reason, my mind always goes back to when I was a kid and some sort of Pop Culture reference.   Ok, I will be dating myself here, so I will include a video after I explain what I am talking about.

I stared this post by calling it Hatsville because of all the hats I have here.  But, what I was really thinking was Lidsville.  The Sid and Marty Kroft TV creation that played on Saturday mornings in the 1970s. Yes, Vintage Saturday Morning Shows!  Lidsville was about Living Puppet Hats!!!  They lived in Lidsville with a crazy magician, Hoo Doo.  Which happens to be the great Charles Nelson Reilly.  I was originally in love with H.R. PufnStuf and I think that will always be my fav, but I really enjoyed all the other kooky shows these two created.

Watching them now, I am like, ok, what the hell where they on and as a child, I didn't see anything wrong with it, not that I do now it is just so wacky!  Which I do Love!  I guess as children we are more accepting of things that are not the norm.  Of course when life gets tough, we all say we just want to be normal again.  Our own normal. I think it is always fun to see things through different colored eyes.  If you aren't familiar with what the hell I am blabbing about, look at this video below.

The teen star in this show is Butch Patrick.  He also played Eddie from The Munsters and his side kick, a Genie played by Billie Hayes.  She was WhichiePoo on HR PufnStuf, and her character was much better, I think.

Anyway, check out the opening song and some clips from the show Lidsville:

These beautiful hats will be available soon through my Etsy shop, Vintage 201.  Hopefully, they will live again once they find a new homes!

Vintage Sparkly Thangs! Part II, Farrah Fawcett Jewelry Collection & Weiss Costume Jewelry!

Look at these fabulous Farrah Fawcett Rhinestone Beauties!!!!
These Super Sparkly Glam earrings are just to die for.

Farrah Fawcett Rhinestone Dangle Clip on Earrings - Circa 1989

In 1989, Farrah Fawcett, Elam and the Knickerbockers created MLF Enterprises to sell the Farrah Fawcett jewelry collection on Home Shopping Network.  My Aunt Terry bought these back then from HSN.  My Aunt always had a good eye for Glam!

They are made very well from a material stand point.  The marquis rhinestones are prong set in a sturdy silver tone metal and the stones in excellent condition.  At the top is a beautiful floral design of 5 marquis rhinestones, then 7 more cascading down to create this old Hollywood Glamorous Style.  The box is nice too.  I love the camel color velvet with cream satin on the inside.  Farrah's name is embossed in Gold lettering. This set is like NEW!

Farrah Fawcett is one of the significant iconic cultural figures that was known for her role on the television show Charlie's Angels in the 1970s and for her famous poster pose in a red bathing suit.

I remember the show and watched it every week and I also remember that poster.  It was everywhere! I still have my 1977 Weekly Reader from grammar school with Farrah on the Cover riding a skate board.  Why I saved it, I will never know, but I guess I had the Farrah bug too!

Another memorable role Farrah played was in  The Burning Bed.

I thought she was so good in that production.  It was different role than what we had been used to.  Perhaps I will watch it again to see if it was that good.

Oh and if you want to see a real Kooky documentary about Farrah and body painting, then you should pick up, Playboy: Farrah Fawcett, All of Me, a bit strange (which I love) but very entertaining!

The next set up for display is an older piece from the late 1950s. This Demi- Parure set is made by Weiss, a very well know costume jewelry maker and very collectible today.

One big Round Rhinestone in the center of the brooch and the earrings then smaller rounds and large marquis stones.  These floral motif earrings and brooch are in excellent condition and in great working order.  Another piece that is like new and highly collectible too!

Albert Weiss designed costume jewelry for Coro during the 1930s then left in 1942 to set up his own enterprise in New York City.  By the late 1940s his business started to thrive and some of his designs had been contracted out to  Hollycraft to keep up with demand.  Weiss also saw the decorative potential of using Aurora Borealis rhinestones that Swarovski developed with Christian Dior in 1950s.  The rhinestones were named after the glittering phenomenon of the Northern Lights.  Albert retires in 1960s and his son, Micheal takes over the business, unfortunately the company closed in 1971.

These two lovely Rhinstone gems will be posted in my Shop, Vintage 201 on Esty.com  soon.  Hope you enjoyed the second installment of Sparkly Thangs!

Thanks for reading and have a Fab night! ~ Gina
